Porzingis Agrees To Opt Into Contract Bolsters Celtics Frontcourt

Celtics Acquire Kristaps Porzingis in Three-Team Trade

Porzingis Agrees to Opt Into Contract, Bolsters Celtics Frontcourt

Deal Secures Future Draft Capital, Strengthens Playoff Contender

The Boston Celtics have made a significant acquisition, adding All-Star centerforward Kristaps Porzingis to their roster in a three-team trade. Porzingis, who agreed to opt into the final year of his contract, brings a unique skill set to the Celtics and bolsters their frontcourt with his size, athleticism, and scoring ability.

In exchange for Porzingis, the Celtics sent a 2023 Memphis first-round draft pick, a 2024 New York first-round draft pick, and a 2025 Memphis first-round draft pick to the Washington Wizards. The New York Knicks, who originally traded for Porzingis in 2019, received a 2024 Memphis second-round draft pick in the deal.

Porzingis, 27, has been a consistent scorer throughout his career, averaging 18.7 points per game. He is also a solid rebounder and defender, making him a valuable asset for any team. The Celtics, who are looking to contend for a championship this season, are expected to benefit greatly from Porzingis' addition.

The trade also secures future draft capital for the Celtics. By sending three first-round picks to acquire Porzingis, they have given themselves flexibility to make additional moves down the road. The Celtics have been one of the league's most active teams in recent years, and this trade shows that they are committed to building a perennial contender.
