## Rockies 9-5 Cubs (Sep 13, 2024) Game Recap ### Rockies Strike Back For 2-Game Split **Chicago, IL** - After dropping the series opener 11-0, the Colorado Rockies rebounded Tuesday night at Wrigley Field to beat the Chicago Cubs 9-5. Colorado jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first inning off of Cubs' starter Justin Steele. A Brendan Rodgers double scored Yonathan Daza and Elehuris Montero to give the Rockies the early advantage. The Rockies extended their lead in the second inning when C.J. Cron launched a solo homerun to left field off of Steele, making it 3-0. The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the second on a RBI groundout from Patrick Wisdom, but Colorado answered right back in the third inning on a RBI single from Ryan McMahon, scoring Rodgers to make it 4-1. The Cubs cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning when Seiya Suzuki hit a 2-run homerun off of Rockies' starter Kyle Freeland. Colorado got a run back in the fourth inning on a solo homerun from Daza, his 19th of the season, to make it 5-3. The Rockies added three more runs in the fifth inning on a 3-run homerun from Cron, his 24th of the season, to give Colorado an 8-3 lead. The Cubs got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a 2-run homerun from Yan Gomes, but that was as close as they would get. The Rockies added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a RBI single from Alan Trejo, scoring Rodgers to make it 9-5. Daniel Bard, Lucas Gilbreath, and Jake Bird combined to throw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Rockies, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five. With the win, the Rockies improve to 68-64 on the season, while the Cubs fall to 55-77. The two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
