Rancho Palos Verdes Resident Faces Power Cutoff Amid Land Movement Crisis; Officials Urge Governor's Help

Power Shutoff Safety Precautions

If a power outage occurs, please take the following safety precautions:

  • Turn off or unplug appliances and electronics to prevent damage when power is restored.
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to preserve food.
  • Use flashlights instead of candles for lighting to avoid fire hazards.
  • Be aware of downed power lines and stay away from them.

Call for Governor's Assistance

Rancho Palos Verdes city officials have urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency in response to the land movement crisis. The declaration would provide access to state resources and funding to assist with recovery efforts.

The land movement, caused by heavy rainfall and unstable soil conditions, has resulted in power outages, evacuations, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor Eric Alegria emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "We need the state's help to address the immediate needs of our community and prevent further damage."

Ongoing Support for Affected Residents

The city of Rancho Palos Verdes is working closely with local organizations to provide support to affected residents. The city has established an emergency assistance center at the Marymount California University campus, where residents can access food, water, shelter, and information.

Additional resources and updates are available on the city's website at www.rpvca.gov.
