Guentzel Traded to the Carolina Hurricanes

Jake Guentzel has been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forward Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in exchange for a package of players and draft picks.

Guentzel, a 28-year-old left-winger, has spent his entire career with the Penguins, tallying 148 goals and 217 assists in 398 regular-season games. He has also been a key contributor in the playoffs, posting 33 goals and 25 assists in 57 games.

The Hurricanes are hoping that Guentzel can provide a boost to their offense, which currently ranks 22nd in the NHL in goals per game (3.03).

In other news, the Hurricanes also announced that they have signed defenseman Ethan Bear to a two-year contract extension.

Bear, 25, has been a solid contributor for the Hurricanes since being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers in 2021. He has one goal and nine assists in 55 games this season.

The Hurricanes are now 34-22-7 this season and sit third in the Metropolitan Division.
